Aye, many's the time we sat
around the ship's cabin in a freezin' winter storm wishin' we was home safe and warm with
our families. But we have no choice: it's fish or fall behind the parade these days, and
you can't always wait for better weather anymore. So you break the ice off the rail and
keep on fishin' and devil take the storm, and you with it, if you'll quit before the hold
is full. My grandaddy told me of times when the weather was worse and the ice was thicker,
and maybe he was telling true. I know that he'd have sailed through anything if he could
have had a Dickinson stove aboard the boat. After all, having a stove to thaw yer bones
and get you warm and dry when the work takes a pause is about the only thing that allows a
man to put up with such crazy business. It may be stretching things a bit to say that
stepping off the deck in an icy gale to a cabin heated with a Dickinson is like cozying up
to your fireplace; but it's nice to know you've got a place to get warm and dry until you
do get back to the home fire. |

"We installed
a Dickinson diesel stove...We bought the Pacific model...The stove is well made to
professional ocean going standards and should last twenty years or more."
|
|
"...No 2 diesel oil
works perfectly well. There is no soot, and it is an advantage to use the same fuel
as is used for the engine. The stove is silent...has plenty of heat potential, and we
generally use the lowest setting."

"The stove keeps the
boat warm and dry...Margaret can bake fish or an occasional roast, and she can simmer
sauces and soups to her heart's content. We have baked bread, pies, cakes and cookies in
the diesel stove oven near the equator many times." |

"Before the
stove started...the pilothouse had developed enough of a chill to give me a sharp
appreciation of how much its well being had added to ours, even in midsummer."

|
"On my first
trip...I had scarcely noticed my surroundings, taking even the stove and its cozy heat for
granted." |

aboard and my wife recently commented that our Dickinson Adriatic is the best investment
in boat equipment we ever made. She never fails to marvel at how dry and comfortable it
